About Tongasoa
TONGASOA (pronounced too-nga-sooh) is the Malagasy word for ‘welcome’. As used here, it means ‘welcome home’. This home is a place that is safe to be who you are, whoever you are. Safe from all forms of abuse and tyrannical behavior that prevent you from being the person God made you to be, the person you truly are and continue to become. You’ve had a long journey. Please come in, take your shoes off, put your feet up!
A World Without Marginalization
Imagine living in a world where you are always greeted with inclusion and treated with dignity and respect. A world in which you are accepted for who you are, whoever you are, and always, always loved. This is the kind of world that Tongasoa aspires to; the kind of world Tongasoa wants to have our children inherit. Marginalized people are those who are discriminated against by society to the point where they are prevented from becoming who or what they want to be. See some of the many reasons people view us negatively and treat us differently than others: why we are marginalized.
Tongasoa's Mission Statement is …
...to nurture and equip leaders of transformation to strive for justice for and liberation of the poor and the marginalized and to effect change in those areas of society that prevent people, especially impoverished women, from achieving the fullness of their humanity. Therefore, Tongasoa is all about reducing marginalization and discriminatory behavior and finding new ways to love one another as our Maker loves us.
